Buying
Is there a monthly fee?
No. There's no subscription. Your purchase includes 5 years of the app and cloud service with every feature: live camera, open and close from anywhere, Smart Motion Cancel, alerts and free updates. You never get a monthly bill.
What happens after 5 years?
Before your 5 years end, we'll email you. To keep everything running, you can renew for another 5 years for $49.99, one payment, less than $1 a month. If you don't renew, the app and cloud service stop (no remote open or close, no live camera, no alerts), but your garage opener, wall button and remotes keep working exactly as before. You can renew any time later to turn SGO back on.
Why does SGO need a cloud service at all?
SGO is live 24/7. It stays connected to our secure server so you can open your garage and watch the live camera from anywhere, at any moment, without opening ports on your home network. Running that server costs us every month. Your purchase covers it for 5 years, and the $49.99 renewal covers the next 5.
What's the difference between SGO-1 and SGO-3?
SGO-1 connects with two wires to an opener that has a simple push-button wall switch. SGO-3 works through a certified garage remote, for openers SGO-1 can't connect to. Both have the live camera, warning beeps, and STOP. SGO-3 is coming soon.
How do I pay?
Through PayPal's secure checkout, using your PayPal account or a credit or debit card. You don't need a PayPal account. See how payment works.
Do you offer installation?
[PLACEHOLDER: confirm] Yes, in the Columbus, Ohio area and within 100 miles of Columbus. Add it at checkout and we'll contact you within 24 hours to schedule.
Compatibility
Will SGO-1 work with my garage?
Yes, if your wall switch is a plain push button, like a doorbell, connected by two wires. If your wall control has a light button, a lock button, or a display, SGO-1 won't work with it. Not sure? Send us a photo.
Does SGO change my garage opener?
No. SGO never interacts with or modifies your opener's internal code or software. SGO-1 connects to the same two terminals your wall push button uses, and your opener, remotes, and settings stay as they are.
Does SGO work with 5 GHz WiFi?
SGO connects to 2.4 GHz WiFi. Most home routers broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, so this works for most homes. If your router uses one name for both, SGO picks the 2.4 GHz band by itself.
What power does it need?
A standard wall outlet near where you mount SGO. The 5V adapter is included.
Setup
How long does setup take?
Most people finish in one sitting: wire and mount, plug in, connect to WiFi, then link the device in the app. See the setup guide.
Where are my Device ID and activation code?
On the label in the box, and in the email we send you when your order is complete. You can also see them in the app under My device codes, which asks for your passcode first. Keep them somewhere safe and don't share photos of them, since together they work like a key to your garage.
My activation code doesn't match my label. Why?
Only SGOs bought before our security update have this. The update gave each SGO a new, stronger activation code, so the code on your label no longer works.
To get your new code: open the SGO app, tap My device codes, and enter your passcode. Write the new code on your label. You need it to log in on a new phone or to reset your password.
If you bought your SGO after the update, the code on your label and in your order email is already correct.

Why does My device codes ask for my passcode?
To protect you. Your activation code works like a key to your garage. Without the passcode, anyone who picks up your phone while the app is open could tap My device codes and copy it. With the passcode, only you can see it. Our server checks the passcode, and after 5 wrong tries it locks for 15 minutes.
Where do I mount SGO?
On your garage opener's own hanging bracket, the metal strap that holds the motor to the ceiling. SGO's mounting bracket bolts onto the strap using one of its existing holes, so there's no drilling into the ceiling. Then tilt SGO so the camera looks at the garage door and lock it with the hand knob, no tools needed. Up there, SGO sits right next to the motor and watches the whole door.
SGO-1: the opener's wall-button terminals are on the motor unit, a short reach away, so the two wires are short and easy to connect.
SGO-3: the garage remote sits inside SGO's holder, so there are no wires to the opener at all. Just plug SGO into the outlet by the opener.

What do the lights mean?
On the device, yellow blinking means not connected to WiFi, and yellow solid means online. White flashing with beeps means the door is about to move. In the app, green means online and red means offline. More detail.
What happens after a power outage?
When power returns, SGO finds your WiFi and reconnects on its own. You don't need to set it up again.
Can I change my WiFi network later?
Yes. Use Change WiFi in the app, with no reset needed.
App and security
Do I need to download an app?
No. The SGO app runs in any web browser on iPhone, Android, tablet, or computer, and always opens the latest version. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
Can I control my garage away from home?
Yes. Open, close, and watch live from anywhere with an internet connection. No router settings or IP addresses needed.
Why do I need a passcode every time?
It keeps kids, guests, or anyone holding your phone from opening the garage. Your passcode is 4 to 8 letters or numbers, your choice. 8 is the safest.
What if I forget my password or passcode?
Use the reset option in the app with your email, Device ID, and activation code. No need to contact us.
How is my garage protected?
Five layers: a unique Device ID, a secret activation code, your email, your password, and your passcode. After 5 wrong login attempts, the account locks for 15 minutes. More about security.
Does SGO work in a dark garage?
Yes. SGO's camera is also a motion detector, and SGO turns on its own LED light during the countdown so the camera can see. In a large or very dark garage, extra light makes motion detection more reliable. Make sure your opener's light bulb works (most openers switch it on when the door moves), or add a motion-sensor light. You can also add the optional door sensor kit (+$10), which detects the door moving even in total darkness.
Can the camera see in the dark?
The camera doesn't have night vision, but SGO turns on its own light during every open or close, so you can see the garage at night. Live View on its own doesn't switch the light on. In a large or very dark garage, extra light helps: keep your opener's light bulb working (most openers turn it on as soon as the door moves), or add a motion-sensor light.
Safety
What is Smart Motion Cancel?
Before the door moves, SGO watches and listens to the garage for 20 seconds. If its camera sees movement, like a person, a car, a pet, or the door being moved by the wall button, a remote or a keypad, or it hears a loud, steady sound such as the opener's motor or someone shouting, SGO cancels and the app tells you why. It works day and night with SGO's own light. For total darkness, the optional door sensor kit (+$10) detects the door starting to move. It is extra protection before the door moves. It works together with your opener's own safety sensors (photo eyes and auto-reverse), and doesn't replace them.
Why did SGO cancel when nobody touched anything?
SGO also listens during the countdown. A loud, steady sound close to SGO, like someone talking loudly or shouting in the garage, can cancel the open or close, just like movement does. That's on purpose: a cancel is always the safe direction. If someone is in the garage making noise during the countdown, stopping is the right call. Nothing is wrong with your SGO. Just tap TOGGLE again when the garage is clear, and the app tells you why it cancelled.
Does anyone in the garage get a warning?
Yes. Before every open or close, SGO beeps 10 times while its bright white light flashes, giving anyone nearby time to step clear.
What if someone presses the wall button while I'm using the app?
The person in the garage comes first. If the wall button (or a remote or keypad) moves the door during SGO's countdown, the camera sees it and SGO cancels, so your tap and theirs don't cancel each other out. Once SGO has pressed the button, your opener works as it always does: a wall-button press stops or reverses the door. How it works
What if something is under the door?
Tap STOP in the app. The door stops right away, during the countdown or while it's moving, with no passcode needed. Your opener's own safety sensors keep working as before.
